However, if you’re not from Texas, you may be stumped on which time of year will be best. Our notorious Texas heat may be an important factor, but different seasonal events, personal preferences, and your vibe as a couple might also influence the time of year you choose. Spoiler alert: it may have a lot more to do with your personal preferences than you’d think.
No need to get overwhelmed, though! As Austin wedding planners, we have done alllll the legwork for you and can speak from experience, having executed weddings in all four seasons. Let’s jump into the breakdown!
Austin Wedding in Winter
If you’ve been dreaming of an outdoor wedding but want to get married during the winter months, Austin just might be the perfect place to do it! Since our temps trend hotter than most other states, our winters are known to be mild, averaging from 45-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Since winter is our off-season, you might even have a better chance of assembling your dream vendor team for your desired date!
Although Austin often dodges below-freezing winter temps, we still experience shorter days in the winter. This may lead to less flexibility in your timeline as you’ll need to capture any daylight photos before the sun sets. For our winter clients, we suggest opting for a first look before their ceremony to ensure they get all their couples’ portraits before the sun goes down.
Austin Wedding in Spring
Spring is the peak season in Austin for a reason! With its lingering winter breeze, Texas sunshine, and the famed Bluebonnets blooming, spring is an ideal time for weddings in Austin. This is also a great chance to take advantage of one of Austin’s many beautiful outdoor venues as green returns to the city after the winter.
On the flip side, spring is also known as pollen-central: Cedar fever in Texas is no joke! If you are prone to seasonal allergies and don’t want to find yourself sneezing down the aisle, you might want to opt for a different season (or schedule your allergy shots now!).
Austin Wedding in Summer
Whether or not you’ve visited Austin before, you’re likely well-aware of our notorious summer heat here! Average temperatures are in the mid to high 90s (with real feel temps well into the 100s!). The last thing you want to do is host your guests under the blazing Texas sun during an outdoor ceremony. That’s why we highly encourage our summer couples to check out Austin’s fabulous indoor venues! That way, you, your guests, and vendors can soak up the love and the air conditioning on your big day. Your beauty glam squad and photography team will thank you for keeping your hair and makeup intact!
Similar to winter, summer is also an off-season for weddings in Austin. This means that if you’re willing to brave the heat, you can take advantage of a greater selection of vendors who haven’t booked up yet. You might also have a larger guest attendance. This is due to fewer weddings on the calendar and summer vacation for students and teachers.
Austin Wedding in Fall
If you’ve ever experienced fall in Austin, you know that it’s one of the most magical times of year! The weather is a welcome reprieve after the summer. Plus, the colorful leaves make for a perfect photo backdrop!
If you choose to tie the knot in the fall, keep in mind that your vendors may have limited availability. Fall weddings are in high demand for a reason! Austin also hosts several large events in the fall, like Austin City Limits (ACL) and Formula 1. Thus, you might want to avoid hosting your wedding over one of these weekends to avoid heavy traffic and high travel expenses for guests.
